Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on August 24, 1972, at Long Beach California. As a child DuVernay's Aunt Denise inspired her love of art and creativity. The actress worked as a late night nurse, allowing her aunt time that she needed in her day to indulge in the arts, literature and theater. DuVernay liked the film West Side Story, which she introduced to her. DuVernay was taught by her the power of art as an avenue for action. DuVernay had an aunt who was well-informed and taught her how to utilize art as a method of expression. DuVernay had her summers spent in Lowndes County Alabama, where DuVernay's father was born and raised. Her father, who was DuVernay's dad, reminisced historic civil rights march over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the neighboring city of Selma Alabama. DuVernay's time in Selma, Alabama was the inspiration she used to write a movie about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. She went to the University of California Los Angeles for a degree in English and African American Studies. When she was still a student DuVernay was interested in creating in television journalism. DuVernay was a journalist intern at CBS News at the time of the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being given duty of looking after the home and looking through the rubbish of one members of the juries. In the aftermath of being dissatisfied in journalism and the jobs she was handed, DuVernay determined to make a move in public relations. DuVernay got her first job as a publicist at a small production studio right following her college. She was promoted to the position and set up her own PR company named The DuVernay Agency in 1999. Her company launched a range of promotion and lifestyle networks that include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye. Autumn Riley is an American actress famous for her roles in American Experience (1997) and A More Perfect Union (2009). Autumn was the Rose of A More Perfect Union and Anna Payne of American Experience.
